Sewer Camera Inspection
Our first step in the sewer cleaning process is to first locate the problem. A sewer camera inspection allows our technicians to accurately diagnose the sewer line issue without the risk of damaging the pipes. After the technician determines that a clog is causing any backup, there are then two ways we can deal with it.
Sewer Rodding
Sewer rodding, or power rodding, is the most common method of dealing with clogs. These auger machines consist of a metal tube with a cable inside with blades or corkscrew at one end and a motorized crankshaft at the other end. Sewer rodding is more generically known as a “rooter” service. It was basically improvised to unclog the tree roots that had blocked pipes which caused the whole drain system to malfunction. Now, it is not only used to remove tree roots from clogged pipes, but anything which causes the blockage, like grease or other such debris. We first attempt a sewer rodding, which in most cases, will do the sewer line cleaning trick itself. If our sewer rodding service can’t handle the tough clogs, we then have to break out the hydro-jetting machine.
Hydro Jetting
Hydro-jetting, or water jetting, is a relatively newer technique used to to clean the pipes and clear out debris and eliminate intrusive tree roots from the sewer lines. The hydro jetting machine contains a very high-pressured hose with a nozzle and a water tank, as well as the motor which pressurizes the water. It pumps up to 4,000 psi of water through the lines. A regular hydro-jetting almost always does the trick. If for some reason a regular hydro-jetting doesn’t fully clean your sewer line out, then we can use hot water instead of cold. We have never come across a sewer line that we couldn’t clear after using a hot water hydro jetting.
In the End
A sewer rodding is ideal and perfect for minor clogs and back ups. A rodding breaks up the debris, but can’t always break “through” the solid material, so in some cases is only a temporary solution. Hydro jetting is only used for more complex problems and for large amounts of blockage. Jetting cleans out the mineral and grease build-up on the walls of the lines too. By smoothing out the ridges on the ledges inside, there is less chance that any waste can get trapped. As your pipes age and weaken over time, hydro-jetting also helps extend the life of your pipes.
