Upgrading your water heater improves efficiency, restores consistent hot water, and helps prevent unexpected system failure.

Professional water heater installation in Chicago starts with choosing a system that actually fits your home and hot water needs. The right size, proper connections, and a quality installation all play a role in how well your new water heater performs. Suburban Plumbing Experts installs tank, tankless, gas, and electric water heaters throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs for homeowners and businesses.

Our plumbers handle the installation from start to finish. We'll look at your hot water usage, available space, existing plumbing, and the type of system you need before getting started. Once the right unit is selected, we'll complete the necessary connections, check the safety components, and test the system to make sure everything is working properly.

Whether you're replacing an old water heater, upgrading to a more efficient system, building a new home, or simply need more hot water for a growing household, we'll help you find an installation solution that makes sense for your property.

Choosing the Right Water Heater for Your Chicago Property

Getting a new water heater is about more than picking a unit and connecting a few pipes. The size and type of system you choose can affect your hot water supply, energy use, available space, and how well the system performs over time.

At Suburban Plumbing Experts, we install water heaters throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs for both homes and businesses. We'll look at your property's hot water needs, existing plumbing, available space, and budget to help you choose a system that makes sense for your situation. Then we'll handle the installation and make sure everything is working properly before we leave.

Our Water Heater Installation Services

We install traditional tank water heaters, tankless systems, and commercial water heating equipment throughout Chicagoland. Our plumbers handle the important details, including sizing the system, making the necessary plumbing connections, addressing gas or electrical requirements, checking venting, and testing the finished installation.

Whether you're installing a water heater in a new home, replacing an outdated system, or upgrading to something more efficient, we'll make sure the new unit is properly installed and ready to perform.

Tank Water Heater Installation

Traditional tank water heaters are still a good choice for many Chicago-area homes and businesses. We install both gas and electric tank systems and make sure the unit is properly sized for your hot water demand.

If you're replacing an older storage tank, we'll also help you decide whether sticking with a traditional tank makes sense or whether another option would be a better fit. If your existing unit has failed or reached the end of its life, we also provide complete water heater replacement services throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters heat water when you need it instead of storing a tank of hot water all day. They can save space and reduce standby heat loss, but they also have different installation requirements than traditional systems.

We'll look at your home's hot water demand, existing plumbing, and gas or electrical capacity to determine whether a tankless system is a good fit. If you decide to make the switch, we'll handle the installation, connections, and testing to make sure the system is operating properly.

Commercial Water Heater Installation

Businesses, restaurants, apartment buildings, and other commercial properties often have much higher hot water demands than a typical home. We install commercial water heating systems throughout Chicagoland and take those demands into account when sizing and installing the equipment.

Our commercial plumbing team can help with new installations and system upgrades while keeping reliability, proper sizing, and applicable plumbing requirements in mind.

Gas Connections and Venting

Gas water heater installations require proper gas connections and adequate venting for safe operation. During an installation, we'll inspect the existing setup and determine whether any components need to be updated or modified for the new system.

Making sure the gas supply and venting are handled correctly is an important part of a safe, reliable water heater installation.

Replacing Your Old Water Heater

If your current water heater is leaking, outdated, inefficient, or simply isn't keeping up anymore, we can take care of the replacement as part of the installation process. We'll disconnect and remove the old unit, install the new water heater, and test the system before completing the job.

If you're still trying to decide whether your current water heater should be repaired or replaced, our water heater repair services can help identify the problem and determine whether another repair makes sense.

Choosing an Energy-Efficient Water Heater

A newer water heater can improve efficiency, but that doesn't mean every high-efficiency system is right for every home. We'll help you compare options based on your actual hot water usage, available utilities, installation requirements, and budget.

Whether you're considering a high-efficiency tank, tankless water heater, or ENERGY STAR® certified system, our goal is to help you choose equipment that provides reliable hot water without paying for features or capacity you don't need.

Once your new water heater is installed, regular water heater maintenance can help keep it operating efficiently and catch developing problems before they turn into unexpected repairs.

A properly installed water heater should give you reliable hot water without becoming something you have to think about every day. That's what we aim for with every installation we complete throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Emergency Water Heater Replacement When You Need Hot Water Fast

When your water heater fails completely and a repair is no longer the best option, you need to get your hot water back without waiting days for a replacement. A leaking or failed water heater can disrupt your home, damage surrounding areas, and create a major headache for your family or business.

Suburban Plumbing Experts provides emergency water heater replacement and installation throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Our plumbers can replace tank, tankless, gas, and electric water heaters and help you choose a properly sized system based on your property's needs.

When you call us for an emergency replacement, we'll first look at what's happening with your existing water heater. If the problem can be repaired, we'll let you know. If the system has reached the point where replacement makes more sense, we'll explain your options and help you choose the right replacement.

Once you've decided to replace the unit, we'll handle the process from start to finish. That includes safely removing the old water heater, installing the new system, completing the necessary connections, checking safety components, and testing the unit to make sure everything is working properly.

Whether you're dealing with a leaking tank, complete system failure, or a water heater that can no longer keep up with your needs, our goal is to restore your hot water quickly without cutting corners on the installation. You get dependable service, honest recommendations, and a new water heater that's installed properly and ready to perform.

Why Professional Water Heater Installation Matters in Chicago

Installing a new water heater isn't just about getting the pipes connected and turning the system on. The way your water heater is installed can affect how safely it operates, how efficiently it uses energy, and how well it holds up over time.

At Suburban Plumbing Experts, our licensed plumbers take care of the details that matter, including proper sizing, secure connections, venting when required, and the installation requirements that apply to your system. This is especially important in Chicago, where cold winter temperatures can put extra demand on your water heater.

A poor installation can create problems that may not show up right away. Leaks, inconsistent heating, poor efficiency, and unnecessary wear can all result when a system isn't installed correctly. If you're already noticing strange sounds, leaks, rust, or pressure problems with your current water heater, our guide on what those warning signs can mean can help you understand when it's time to have the system checked.

A properly installed water heater can give you:

  • Better safety: Proper connections, venting, and installation help your system operate safely.
  • Reliable performance: Correct sizing and installation help your water heater keep up with your household's hot water needs.
  • Fewer problems: Proper installation reduces the chances of leaks, poor performance, and unnecessary wear.
  • Better long-term value: When your water heater is installed correctly, it can operate the way it was designed to and give you more reliable service.

Once the installation is finished, regular water heater maintenance can help keep the system running efficiently and catch developing problems before they turn into unexpected breakdowns.

How to Choose the Right Water Heater for Your Chicago Home or Business

Choosing a new water heater can feel like a bigger decision than it should be. There are different sizes, types, fuel sources, and efficiency ratings to consider, and the cheapest option upfront isn't always the best fit for your home or business.

At Suburban Plumbing Experts, we start by looking at how you actually use hot water. We'll consider the size of your household or business, your typical hot water demand, available installation space, existing plumbing, fuel type, and budget before recommending a system.

Depending on your situation, we can help you compare traditional tank water heaters, tankless systems, and high-efficiency models. Traditional tanks are still a practical choice for many Chicago homes, while tankless systems can make sense when space is limited or you want on-demand hot water and less standby heat loss.

It's also important to look beyond the price of the water heater itself. Installation requirements, necessary plumbing or gas-line changes, efficiency, and expected operating costs can all affect the total investment. Our water heater replacement cost guide for Chicago and the suburbs walks through the costs and factors to consider before you make a decision.

If you're replacing an older or failing water heater, we'll also help you determine whether repairing the existing unit still makes sense. Sometimes a repair is all you need. Other times, putting more money into an aging system isn't worth it, and replacement is the better long-term option.

Our goal is simple: help you choose a water heater that fits your property and your actual hot water needs. You shouldn't have to pay for a system that's larger, more complicated, or more expensive than necessary. With the right equipment and professional installation, you can have dependable hot water and a system that's built to perform for years to come.

What to Expect During Your Chicago Water Heater Installation

Getting a new water heater installed shouldn't be a complicated experience. While the work itself involves several important steps, a professional plumber should handle those details for you and make sure everything is set up correctly before the job is finished.

At Suburban Plumbing Experts, we keep the installation process straightforward. We'll look at your existing setup, explain what needs to be done, and handle the installation from removal through final testing. Our goal is to leave you with a water heater that's safe, reliable, and ready to provide hot water.

Initial Inspection and System Evaluation

Before we install anything, we'll look at your existing plumbing, gas or electrical connections, venting, and the space where the water heater will go. We'll also consider how much hot water your home or business actually uses so the new system is properly sized.

Choosing the right size matters. A system that's too small may leave you running out of hot water, while an oversized unit can cost more than necessary. If you're unsure what size you need, our guide on what size water heater you need for your Chicago home explains what goes into choosing the right capacity.

Safe Removal of Your Existing Water Heater

If you're replacing an existing unit, we'll safely shut everything down, disconnect the water heater, and remove it from the property. We'll also prepare the installation area so the new system can be installed properly.

This is a good opportunity to catch problems that may have been developing around the old unit, such as leaking connections, corrosion, or other plumbing issues.

Professional Installation and Connections

Once the old unit is out, we'll install your new water heater and make the necessary plumbing, gas, electrical, and venting connections based on the type of system you've chosen.

We'll follow the manufacturer's installation requirements and applicable local requirements rather than taking shortcuts. Proper installation helps your water heater operate safely and gives you the reliable performance you expect from a new system.

Safety Checks and Final Testing

We don't consider the installation finished just because the new water heater is connected. We'll test the system, check the connections for leaks, verify the safety components, and make sure the unit is heating and operating properly.

If adjustments are needed, we'll take care of them before we leave so you aren't left trying to figure out whether everything is working correctly.

A Quick Walkthrough Before We Leave

Once the installation is complete, we'll explain the basic operation of your new water heater and answer any questions you have about using or caring for it. We'll also let you know what maintenance the system needs and what you can do to help keep it operating efficiently.

A good installation should give you more than a new piece of equipment. It should give you confidence that your water heater was selected, installed, and tested properly from the start.

Safe, Code-Compliant Water Heater Installation in Chicago

A new water heater needs to be installed correctly from the start. Proper connections, venting, safety components, and installation practices all matter when you're dealing with gas, electricity, hot water, and pressure inside your home.

At Suburban Plumbing Experts, our licensed plumbers take the time to make sure your new water heater is installed properly and according to applicable requirements. We inspect the existing setup, make the necessary connections, and test the system before we consider the job finished.

During your installation, we pay close attention to:

Gas Line Safety

Gas water heaters require secure gas connections and proper testing before the system is put into service. We'll inspect the gas connection and check for leaks to help ensure your new water heater operates safely.

Electrical Connections

Electric water heaters depend on properly sized wiring, breakers, and electrical connections. We'll make sure the necessary connections are installed correctly and appropriate for the new system.

Proper Venting and Combustion Safety

Gas water heaters need proper venting to move combustion gases safely out of the home. We'll inspect the venting setup and make sure it is appropriate for the water heater being installed.

Pressure Relief Valve Protection

The temperature and pressure relief valve is an important safety component on a water heater. We'll verify that the valve and related components are properly installed so the system has the protection it needs against excessive pressure.

Once everything is connected, we'll test the water heater, check for leaks, and verify that the system is operating properly. We'll also explain the basics of your new water heater and let you know what to watch for as you use it.

Taking the time to install and test a water heater correctly helps protect your home, your family, and your investment while giving you dependable hot water from day one.

We don't believe in shortcuts or pushing upgrades you don't need. Our job is to install your water heater correctly and make sure it works the way it should.

We also understand that Chicago-area homes can come with their own challenges, especially older plumbing systems, limited installation spaces, and the demands of cold winter weather. We take those factors into account when planning and completing your installation.

Questions Chicago Homeowners Ask About Water Heater Installation

Q: What's the difference between replacing a water heater and installing one? I'm not sure which service I actually need?

A: The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a practical difference. Replacement usually means removing an existing water heater and putting a new one in its place. Installation can also refer to adding a water heater where one didn't exist before, switching from one type of system to another, or installing a unit in a new construction or remodeled space. When you call us, we'll ask a few questions about your situation so we can explain what the job will involve. Whether you're replacing an old unit or installing a completely new system, we'll handle the work properly and make sure everything is tested before we leave.

Q: My house was built in the 1950s and still has some original plumbing. Could that make installation more complicated?

A: It can, especially in older Chicago homes. We commonly run into aging galvanized supply lines, older venting, worn shutoff valves, and plumbing connections that have been in place for decades. These issues don't necessarily prevent a new water heater from being installed, but they may need to be addressed to make sure the new system operates properly. We'll inspect the existing setup before installation and let you know if anything needs attention. If an older connection or section of plumbing should be replaced, we'll explain why and give you the options before doing additional work.

Q: Can you install a tankless water heater where my current tank water heater is located?

A: In many cases, yes, but it depends on the existing setup. Tankless water heaters have different venting and gas requirements than traditional tank systems, so the installation may require changes to the venting or gas supply. The unit itself is much smaller and wall-mounted, so it can often be installed in or near the same general area while freeing up the floor space occupied by the old tank. We'll evaluate the location, existing connections, and your home's hot water needs to determine what would be involved.

Q: Can you install water heaters in multi-unit buildings and commercial properties?

A: Yes. Multi-unit and commercial properties have different hot water demands than a typical single-family home, so proper sizing and system selection become especially important. Depending on the property, we may recommend a larger tank, multiple water heaters, or a commercial tankless system. We'll look at the building's hot water demand and existing setup to determine what makes the most sense for the property.

Q: Do I need a permit for a water heater installation in Chicago?

A: Permit requirements can vary depending on the location and type of work being performed. When a permit is required, we'll explain what's involved and handle the applicable requirements as part of the installation process. This is one reason professional installation matters. Your water heater needs to be installed according to the requirements that apply to your property, including proper connections, venting, and safety components.

Q: What should I do after my new water heater is installed?

A: We'll walk you through the basics before we leave, including how your system operates, where the shutoff is located, and what to watch for as the water heater gets older. Regular maintenance is also important. Tank water heaters benefit from periodic flushing to remove sediment, while tankless systems need descaling to prevent mineral buildup inside the heat exchanger. Having the system maintained regularly can help keep it efficient and catch developing problems before they become unexpected repairs.

They called to see if it would be okay if they came earlier than our scheduled appointment (awesome). Upon arrival, Mike and Adam were extremely professional and courteous. Mike is very knowledgeable. He managed to troubleshoot a water pressure issue quickly and resolved it in no time. He also brought a drain pipe issue to my attention (the build up of grease) and suggested several low-cost recommendations to remedy it myself. The kitchen faucet and sink are back to working the way they should. I couldn't be more happy with the service. I would highly recommend them and plan on using them for any future plumbing needs.

First Will had to assess the problem and unfortunately we did need a new hot water heater. He arrived to install it on the scheduled day and did a great job. He also recommended a smaller heater - we didn't need such a big heater - which will save us money in fuel costs. Overall great job

We had an issue with how our water heater vent had been installed and just needed it to be adjusted. Every other plumber we had out to look at it tried to sell us a new water heater. Mike came and gave a very common sense idea for how we might revent it using the existing vent lines. He clearly knows his stuff and doesn't just try to sell you something you don't need. While he was here, we also had him fix a leaking valve which he was able to do quickly and efficiently. Very happy with the service and will call again with plumbing matters in the future!
